Efficient Management Board – Scenario: Restaurant Rangers

The story takes your management board to solve complex business cases in order to evaluate how your management board functions and how its members operate. Your board will solve problems encountered in your imaginary side business. You will end up challenging each other, tolerate mistakes and deal with inappropriate behaviour in the organisation. The exercise consists of ten case situations. In each case, you need to solve who in your team would be the best person to solve the case at hand. After each case, there will be a facilitated discussion where the choices are explained and others’ views are heard.

Management Board is a Different Kind of a Team

Research tells us that effective operation of the management board deals with for instance handling of conflcts, psychological security, emotional intelligence and clarity of decision-making.

Management board differs from the other teams in the organisation: the management board is timewise a secondary team to its members. Management board also deals with the most difficult issues in the organisation and makes critical decisions. For these to succeed, the team needs to be able to deal with challenging questions and critically evaluate the choices that have been made. As the story unfolds, concrete situations help a facilitated discussion on team members’ readiness and strengths in different kinds of situations.

Management boards of 4-16 persons.

Objectives

  • Create mutual understanding on how the team functions most effectively
  • Highlight personal preferences and ways of working, get to know colleagues also outside work environment
  • Make visible the current practices and roles in the team
  • Provide the management board with an opportunity to discuss their ways of functioning

Duration

10 cases to solve, duration about 2-2.5 hours, additionally a separate feedback session (ca. 2 hours) if desired.
